About Aquaponics

Designing Your System

"Ebb and flow", also known as "Flood and Drain", is just one of several strategies for building aquaponics systems. Why will I be focusing on ebb and flow systems versus any other kind? Simple: At this point, it's the only kind of system I've tried, and hence the only one with which I have any useful experience. There are some great comparisons online of ebb and flow systems vs. continuous flow, raft systems, drip irrigation, etc.

If ebb and flow looks like a good place to start, visit my other pages for info on each component of the system. A list of parts you'll need can be found under Step 3 of the Siphon page.

A great reference on all things related to aquaponics, Sylvia Bernstein's book, "Aquaponic Gardening: A Step-by-Step Guide to Raising Vegetables and Fish Together" discusses several ebb and flow setups, including the one I've adapted and now use.
